The Bristol Tramps Sports Reunion continued “Helping Preserve Bristol’s Sports History” as it celebrated its 44th annual dinner on Friday, April 11. The event was held at the Aqua Turf, as over 350 guests renewed friendships and paid tribute to this year’s honorees and scholarship winners.
The evening was hosted by toastmistress, Maryellen Holden–who continues to keep the program entertaining and on schedule. After the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation by Father Nicolas Melo, the Julie Larese Memorial Scholarships were presented by Julie’s daughter, Marion Gifford to a senior from each of Bristol’s High Schools. Samantha Bevivino (BEHS), Lilly Martin (SPCHS) and Nadia Kreciglowa (BCHS) were thoughtful and brief in their acceptance speeches. The Bristol Tramps thank the following for providing matching funds toward our $1000 scholarships in memory of their loved ones: D’Amato Construction, John E Tavera Memorial Fund and The Scalia Family.
Following the family-style dinner, the honorees gave thanks to those who helped them and whom they’d helped. Each were greeted warmly and enthusiastically by the crowd.
“The 2014 Award honorees represent some of our community’s greatest assets and in more ways than one have contributed to Bristol’s sports heritage” said Co-Chairman, Tony Carrier.
The class of 2014 include: Chelsea Schaffrick (Ronald Choiniere Award), Stacy Rivoira (Lydia Jabs Bailey Award), George Synnott (Chuck McCarthy Award), Hal Kilby (Harp Broderick Award), Henry Couture (Bill Garrett Award), Bob Zysk (Ed Lodovico Award), Dr. Michael Lantiere (Committee Award), Forestville Little League (Tony Savino “Pay it Forward” Award) and the 1986 BEHS Baseball, State Champions (Team Award).
The night was filled with wonderful memories, great stories, some funny and others inspirational, said Chair, John Lodovico.
